About George Davison School
A 7 Habits School
George Davison School offers regular and combined classes at each grade level. Students with special needs are successfully integrated into regular classrooms. George Davison offers full day everyday and part-time kindergarten programs. George Davison focuses on 7 Habits for Highly Successful People for students. Through regular library classes, the teacher/librarian exposes students to literacy activities, guest authors and presents material interactively with active board technology.
Combined Classes
A "combined class" is composed of a group of students from two separate grades who work within one classroom setting. Students are placed in groups, when working on specific skills, according to their individual needs.
Two-Year Cycling or Looping
George Davision is the only school in Medicine Hat that offers a "two-year cycle" or "looping program" where students stay with a teacher, whenever possible, for two consecutive years. The benefits of this program include increased continuity of learning and a more stable instructional environment.
Phono-Graphix/Sound Thinking
The staff of George Davision were the first in the District to be trained in a specially designed reading program that has been implemented throughout the school, called PhonopGraphix. A major focus has been at the Primary level, which has resulted in students generally reading at, or above, grade level.
Parents and Volunteers
Parents are actively involved in classroom and school activities. School Council Meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month and all parents are welcome to attend.
Technology
Teachers integrate technology into the regulaar curriculum with up to 12 computers in every classroom. LED Projectors are in each classroom and there is an interactive SMARTBoard in each classroom.
Mentoring Program
George Davison School was the first school to partner with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters to begin the Mentoring Proogram. Students are paired with adults from the community for approximately one hour per week to participate in activities on the premises during the school day.
Student Care
George Davison provides three programs to assist parents with the care of their children. The Before School Program runs each day from 7:30am - 8:30am. The After School Program runs from 3:08pm - 5:45pm each afternoon. There is a charge for each of these care services. The Lunch Hour Program provides free supervision. Students may also participate in the Milk Program.
